WYOMING, Mich. –  PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III returned for Saturday afternoon’s second round of the PBA50 Cup presented by DV8 after an overnight trip to New York where he participated in a National Bowling Day segment on “FOX & Friends” Saturday morning. Despite a whirlwind trip, he proceeded to take top qualifier honors for the season’s final PBA50 Tour major.

After finishing sixth in Friday’s first round with a 1,730 eight-game pinfall total at Spectrum Lanes, Bohn caught a flight from Grand Rapids to Newark. He then returned to Grand Rapids after the early morning FOX appearance just in time for his second squad Saturday afternoon where he bowled 1,830 for eight games to take the tournament lead.

Bohn finished with a 16-game overall qualifying pinfall total of 3,560 (222.5 average), 60 pins ahead of Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio, who held on to second finishing with 3,500 for his 16 games of qualifying.

Bohn, a 35-time PBA Tour and four-time PBA50 Tour winner, bowled games of 262, 211, 248, 185, 214, 246, 233 and 231 in the second round.

A delayed return flight from Newark nearly ended the tournament for Bohn.

“Everything went well on the trip there but on the way back it was another story,” said Bohn of his ordeal on the return trip. “My plane was supposed to leave at 11:50 a.m., but it was delayed and we didn’t leave until about 1 p.m.

“When I got to the Grand Rapids airport I had to sprint to the exit where my wife (Leslie) was waiting for me to take me to the center. As I was walking in the door at Spectrum Lanes (tournament director) John Weber was getting ready to start the squad.

“I didn’t get any practice,” Bohn continued. “I started with the same ball as I used on Friday and took a guess on my speed and where I should play and went from there.”

It was about a month ago that Bohn, along with PBA star Andrew Anderson and PWBA star Daria Pajak were asked to be part of the “FOX & Friends” National Bowling Day segment. After looking at the PBA50 Cup schedule and the airline schedule Bohn found that making the trip to New York was possible.

“I wanted to go because of my love for the game and to promote the sport – it’s as simple as that,” Bohn said. “I was running on adrenaline and pretty pumped so I think that’s how I got through the day today. I’m just glad it all worked out.”

Bohn led 30 players who advanced to two modified round-robin match play rounds which will begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m. ET. After match play, the top five players will be determined for the stepladder finals at 7 p.m.

A 253 final game in the second round helped PBA50 Tour rookie Rolando Sebelen of the Dominican Republic hang onto third place. The first round leader finished qualifying with a 3,480, finding the going tougher in the second round bowling 1,623 for eight games after 1,857 in the first round.
