The sport of bowling got a tremendous amount of exposure Thursday morning as the Go Bowling entry into the 92nd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was shown on two national television networks.
The giant bowling ball, bowling pins and bowling shoes moving display was talked about on NBC by Savanah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker for a full minute providing essentially a commercial for recreational bowling.

So why is this important for the sport of bowling? The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the most watched television events of the year and draws tens of millions of viewers.
Families across the country were tuned in watching and even if a small fraction of them decide to go bowling as a result of seeing this promotion, it would be positive for the sport.
Go Bowling, the title sponsor of the PBA Tour, is the marketing arm of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America and aims to promote the sport to recreational bowlers and get more people to walk through the doors of bowling centers across the country.
In the past, including earlier this year, Go Bowling has spent a tremendous amount of money sponsoring NASCAR races and drivers. However, one could argue the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was one of their best promotional efforts yet although it surely came at a heavy cost.
Thursday was a big win for the sport of bowling. We should all be thankful for that.
