The four finalists for the singles medal round at the 2018 World Bowling Men’s Championships have been determined and all of them have current or past ties to the PBA Tour.

Team USA’s Andrew Anderson and Kyle Troup took the first and second spots, while Malaysia’s Rafiq Ismail qualified third and Canada’s Dan MacLelland was fourth at the South China Athletic Association Bowling Centre in Hong Kong.

Results: World Championships Singles Qualifying

The singles medal round will take place Saturday at 6:30 a.m. Eastern and be broadcast live on FloBowling for audiences in North America. The semifinals matchups will be Anderson vs. MacLelland and Troup vs. Ismail. The winners will meet for the gold.

Anderson, Troup and Ismail all bowled on the first day of qualifying and held onto their spots as the final two squads took to the lanes Monday. MacLelland was the only bowler from Monday’s squads to crack the top four, although positions five through 10 in the final standings all came from the final two squads.

Anderson led the field with a dominating 1,473, an average of 245.5, Troup had 1,368, Ismail totaled 1,361 and MacLelland shot 1,349. All 265 players in the field competed in the six games of qualifying.

"It's really exciting for us to get off to such a fast and for two of us to make the medal round," Anderson told BOWL.com. "Plus, (Troup and I) don't have to bowl each other, which is great. That means there's a chance for a gold-medal match with the two of us, and that would be pretty awesome."

Anderson was recently named the PBA Player of the Year for the 2018 season, while Troup had his best season on tour yet, winning the Storm Lucky Larsen Masters, and recently finished second at the QubicaAMF World Cup for Team USA.

"Coming into this event, I was really excited after having a great World Cup, and it has been a fun couple of days," Troup told BOWL.com. "I did sweat a little watching the last couple of games today, but I made the medal round, which is a great start. I'm a confidence and momentum bowler, so I couldn't have asked for more, and I hope to carry it over to doubles tomorrow."

Ismail, meanwhile, was in the running for 2018 PBA Rookie of the Year, an award that went to Kamron Doyle. MacLelland bowled a number of PBA Tour events from 2009-2015, making eight championship round appearances but never won a title. He is no longer a PBA member.

The action now shifts to doubles qualifying, which will take place Tuesday and Wednesday to determine the medal round finalists in that event.
