A big block in Thursday’s cashers round allowed Jakob Butturff to overtake the lead heading into match play at the 2019 PBA Oklahoma Open.
Butturff totaled 1,725 for seven games Thursday morning and leads the event with 5,153 for 21 games, an average of 245.38. Jesper Svensson, who led after the first and second rounds, dropped to second with 5,118 after his lowest seven-game block of the tournament.
The Top 24 players after the second round of qualifying advanced to the cashers round and the field was cut again, this time down to the Top 16 for round robin match play, which begins at 5 p.m. Central live on FloBowling.
Anthony Lavery-Spahr sits in third place with 5,071, Jason Belmonte is fourth with 5,046 and Kris Prather rounds out the Top 5 with 5,039.
There was drama in the final game as EJ Tackett strung together enough strikes to move from outside the cut number to inside the cut with a 234 his final game. Tackett earned the final spot in match play with a 21-game total of 4,844.
The advancing players will bowl eight games of round robin match play tonight and conclude match play with eight games Friday at 10 a.m. Central.
