Mike Dias won his first PBA50 title in nearly five years Tuesday as he defeated Parker Bohn III to win the PBA50 Northern California Classic.

Dias, 62, took down the PBA Hall of Famer, 227-217, in the championship match at Harvest Park Bowl in Brentwood, California, for his third career PBA50 title.

Dias had a chance to shut out Bohn in the final frame with a strike on his first shot but left a 10 pin. That gave Bohn a chance to throw all three in the 10th frame to win by one.

Bohn delivered a perfect first strike but then left a devastating ringing seven pin on his second shot to lose and continue his stepladder slump.

Since winning the PBA50 Dave Small’s Championship Lanes Classic on July 29, 2017, Bohn has now made nine stepladder finals on the PBA50 Tour without a win. His second-place finish this week is his highest finish during that stretch.

Throughout the first eight frames of the championship match, both players stayed within about a mark of each other until Dias strung strikes together in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth frames to take a 19-pin lead. That clutch stretch gave Dias a chance to control his own destiny in the final frame.

The victory gave Dias his third career title with the last one coming on June 20, 2014, when he won the PBA50 Grants Pass Open by defeating Dale Eagle in the championship match.

In the semifinal, Bohn fell behind after a couple frames but went on to blast Skip Pavone, 280-256, to advance to the championship match.

Bohn left the 3-6 in the second frame for his only blemish, while Pavone started with the front three but ultimately couldn’t string enough strikes to keep up with Bohn.

Norm Duke got out of the gates quick in the second match of the stepladder with the front four but went on to lose to Pavone, 245-228.

Duke lost his look on the left lane, going high three straight frames, and Pavone locked up the win with a strike in the ninth frame.

In an opening match that was never very close, Duke rolled to a 268-212 win over Bryan Goebel.

Duke started the game with the front eight before leaving a four pin in the ninth frame. A 7-10 split in the sixth frame effectively ended Goebel’s hopes.

The PBA50 Tour heads to Las Vegas next week for the second major of the season, the USBC Senior Masters. The next event broadcast on FloBowling will be the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open starting June 10.
