With two of four qualifying squads completed, Sydney Brummett and Kris Prather took the lead Friday at the 2019 PBA/PWBA Mixed Doubles.

HOUSTON – With two of four qualifying squads completed, Sydney Brummett and Kris Prather took the lead Friday at the 2019 Storm PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles.

The pair combined for a seven-game total of 3,222, to lead by 84 pins, at Copperfield Bowl. Prather shot 1,723, an average of better than 246 per game, while Brummett added 1,499, a 214.14 average.

Prather got out of the gates quick with games of 239, 234, 278 and 269 before closing with 216, 257 and 230.  Brummett struggled a little in the first three games, shooting 187, 201 and 199 before turning it up a notch and firing 247, 233, 214 and 218.

The final two squads will be on the lanes Saturday to close out qualifying. Squad C will bowl at 8 a.m. Central, while Squad D will take the lanes at 2 p.m. Central. All rounds of the event are being broadcast live exclusively on FloBowling.

Defending champions Liz Johnson and EJ Tackett sit in second place after the first two squads with 3,138. Tackett put together an extremely steady block of 1,723 with no game lower than 232, while Johnson shot 1,453.

Jodi Woessner and Anthony Lavery-Spahr are in third place with 3,067, while Jasmine Coleman and Vernon Peterson are fourth with 3,056. Rounding out the top five is Anita Arnett and Zeke Bayt with 3,023.

The top 40 teams after all four squads have competed will advance to the five-game semifinal round on Sunday. After two squads, 20th place is currently Cassandra Leuthold and Sam Cooley with 2,869, a 204.92 average.

The PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Over that span, the event has raised more than $1 million in the fight against breast cancer.
