Bohn Looks To Bust Slump Friday At PBA50 Jax 60 Classic

As the 2019 PBA50 season comes to a close Friday, Parker Bohn III will try to get back in the winner’s circle after more than two years at the PBA50 Dave Small’s Jax 60 Classic.

Bohn was the top qualifier Thursday at the event in Jackson, Michigan, with a 16-game total of 3,803, a 237.69 average, and will need to survive one round of match play to make another stepladder finals this season.

Bohn has made three stepladder appearances this season with his best finish coming at the PBA50 Northern California Classic, where he took second. Dating back to 2017, Bohn has made nine shows without a victory on the PBA50 Tour.

“I don’t mind telling you I’m tired of making shows and not winning,” the 56-year-old left-hander said in a PBA release. “There’s something to be learned from every tournament so hopefully I can put all that experience to use and win this one.”

Bohn jumped from 11th place after the opening round into the lead by putting up the highest eight-game block of the tournament Thursday with 1,976.

“The good shots resulted in strikes and the bad shots resulted in nothing worse than a makeable spare,” said Bohn, who has won 35 times on the PBA Tour and four times on the PBA50 Tour. “After the first game I just needed to tighten up my line to the pocket a little bit and more often than not I knocked them all down. I didn’t have to shoot at anything worse than a three-pin spare.”

The top eight players after qualifying earned byes into the second round of match play. Joining Bohn in that group was Joel Carlson, Brian Menini, Steve Jaros, Harry Sullins, Mark Williams, Ron Mohr and Brian Voss.

The players who qualified ninth through 24th advanced into the first round of match play, while those who finished 25th through 36th will bowl a cashers round Friday morning along with the top eight super seniors out of the cut.

The stepladder finals will take place Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast live on FloBowling.

Walter Ray Williams Jr., who locked up the 2019 PBA50 Player of the Year award last week, qualified in a tie for 31st place, which means he will need to advance through every round Friday if he is to win his fourth title of the season. Williams has finished no lower than ninth this season.
