Moore Continues Momentum, Leads In Delaware

Just days removed from winning his first career PBA Tour title, BJ Moore carried that momentum into qualifying Saturday at the 2019 PBA Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic.

Moore, who won the PBA Wilmington Open on Wednesday, post a seven-game total of 1,697, a 242.43 average, to lead the field of 150 players in qualifying at Mid-County Bowling & Entertainment Center in Middletown, Delaware.

Games of 225, 229, 298 and 267 helped Moore get out to a quick start, and he finished with games of 215, 259 and 204. Moore was the only player in the field to start a game with the front 11 on Saturday and left the 4-9 split to end his bid at perfection.

Moore defeated Sean Rash, 243-215, in the championship match in Wilmington, North Carolina, three days ago to earn his first title after being on the cusp of winning for years.

In order to win back-to-back events, Moore will need to survive a much different test this weekend than he faced in Wilmington.

The top 50 player after qualifying Saturday advanced to a five-game cashers round Sunday morning. After 12 total games, the top 12 move on to bowl 12 games of round robin match play starting at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.

After 24 total games, the top four players will bowl for the title in the stepladder finals at approximately 6:45 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.

A pair of players seeking their first career PBA Tour titles sit in second and third place. AJ Johnson is second with 1,625, while Zacharay Wilkins is third with 1,611.

Two-time champion Thomas Larsen is fourth with 1,611, while Tom Daugherty was the highest player on Squad B and finished the day in fifth place with 1,607.

The last advancing spot was decided by a rolloff late Saturday night after Chris Barnes and Todd Sigeti tied at 1,443 for 50th place. Barnes easily advanced after starting the one-game match with the front seven and rolling to a 257-188 victory.
