MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Francois Lavoie remained in the lead after the third round of qualifying Sunday as the first cut was made at the 2019 U.S. Open.

Although Lavoie shot 301 pins lower in the third round than he did in the second, it was more than enough to keep him in the top spot at Victory Lanes. Lavoie has a 24-game total of 5,246, a 218.58 average, heading into the next round.

The top 36 players in the 144-player field advanced into Monday morning’s cashers round where they will bowl an additional eight games to determine the match play field.

The top 24 players after 32 games will bowl 24 games of round robin match play. All qualifying and match play rounds are being broadcast live on FloBowling.

Lavoie moved into the lead Saturday with a blistering 1,968 second-round total. His lead on the field shrunk slightly Sunday as he shot 1,667. He had 1,611 in the opening round Friday.

The Canadian, who won the 2016 U.S. Open title, got out of the gates quick Sunday with a 249 game but cooled off after that. He went on to shoot games of 203, 194, 224, 175, 221, 185 and 216.

Bill O’Neill put up the fourth highest total of the day Sunday with 1,763 as he moved into second place with 5,154. Sean Rash sits in third place with 5,128.

Shawn Maldonado made a big jump up the standings after shooting 1,793 in the third round. He moved from 16th place after Round 2 up to fourth overall with 5,096.

Jesper Svensson rounds out the top five with 5,088 and was one of three lefties to advance into the cashers round. Kim Bolleby (4,097, 30th place) and Rhino Page (4,892, 33rd place) were the other two.

The only PWBA bowlers in the field, Verity Crawley and Maria Jose Rodriguez, made the cut Sunday. Crawley finished in 14th place with 4,983, while Rodriguez was the last player in after ending up in 36th place with 4,871.
