Shooting his first 300 in front of his mom, Jakob Butturff was the top qualifier Monday at the 2020 PBA Chameleon Championship.
Butturff finished with a 10-game qualifying total of 2,385, a 238.50 average, to lead the 120-player field at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas. The Chameleon is the second event of the 2020 PBA World Series of Bowling.
The top 16 players advanced to the best-of-five single-elimination match-play bracket, which will take place Monday live on FloBowling. Qualifying for the PBA Scorpion Championship begins Tuesday at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Butturff, who tossed the perfect game in the middle of the second round, shot 1,235 in the evening block to move into the top spot. He had 1,150 in the first round Monday afternoon.
Chris Via, who shot the only other 300 game on the Chameleon pattern, celebrated his birthday by finishing in second place with 2,383 to make his second straight cut. The 300 was Via’s first in PBA competition.
Jesper Svensson, fresh off back-to-back wins in Indianapolis, qualified in third place with 2,366, while EJ Tackett was fourth with 2,362. Kris Prather rounded out the top five with 2,338.
Jason Belmonte, who had a rare missed cut after he finished 70th in the Cheetah Championship, rebounded Monday and advanced in the sixth position.
Other advancers included Thomas Larsen, Bill O’Neill, Tom Smallwood, Pontus Andersson, Josh Blanchard, Stu Williams, Carsten Hansen, Francois Lavoie, Brad Miller and Anthony Simonsen.
Williams made a huge move in the final game, shooting 279 to go from 28th place to 12th and into the cut number.
Meanwhile, Kyle Troup went the opposite direction in a stunning finish. Sitting in seventh place going into the last game, Troup finished with four consecutive opens and a 152 game to drop to a tie for 24th place and missed the cut by 26 pins.
Qualifying scores from the Cheetah, Chameleon and Scorpion events are being used to put together a 30-game qualifying total for the PBA World Championship this week.
After 20 of 30 games, Tackett leads the field with a total of 4,763, a 238.15 average, heading into the PBA Scorpion Championship tomorrow.
Butturff sits in second with 4,744, Via is third with 4,650, Svensson occupies fourth at 4,623 and Lavoie is fifth with 4,537. Belmonte, the defending champion, jumped up into a tie for 27th place after his tough day on Cheetah on Sunday.
