With just three events remaining on the schedule, the 2018 PBA50 season is quickly coming to a close. The best senior bowlers in the world will be in Kokomo, Indiana, this week for the PBA50 Security Federal Savings Bank Championship presented by Track.

There will be plenty of big names for bowling fans to look for when the event is broadcast live on FloBowling, including one PBA Hall of Famer who isn’t bowling full-time on the PBA50 Tour but could be one to look out for this week.

Here’s what to look for at the PBA50 Security Federal Savings Bank Championship:

Doug Kent looking to break through for first PBA50 title

Since turning 50 last year, 10-time PBA titlist Doug Kent has only bowled part time on the PBA50 Tour. Still looking for his first PBA50 title, Kent is a player to watch this week among those signed up to compete at the PBA50 Security Federal Savings Bank Championship.

Last week, Kent finished tied for sixth at the PBA50 South Shore Open presented by Hammer, just missing making the stepladder finals. In the final two games of match play, Kent shot games of 247 and 252 to make a push but came up 45 pins short.

Kent, who bowled a 300 game in qualifying at the South Shore Open, will compete in his fourth event of the season this week. He finished 22nd at the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open and 49th at the United States Bowling Congress Masters.

Since turning 50, the PBA Hall of Famer has competed in seven PBA50 events, advancing to match play six times.

PBA50 Player of the Year race essentially over

With his win at the PBA50 River City Extreme Open presented by Ebonite in Monticello, Minnesota on June 15 and a second-place finish at the PBA50 South Shore Open, Michael Haugen Jr. has essentially locked up the PBA50 Player of the Year race.

Haugen has a massive lead in the PBA50 points race with 24,760 compared to Ron Mohr’s second-place total of 16,459. Walter Ray Williams Jr. is third with 16,089 points, while Norm Duke is fourth at 15,134. Lennie Boresch Jr. rounds out the top five in points with 14,785.

With two titles already this season, the only question that remains is whether or not Haugen can add another title to his quickly sparkling PBA50 resume.

Another long pattern for the PBA50 Tour this week

After just finishing competing on the longest pattern of the year, the PBA50 field will face yet another long pattern in Kokomo this week.

The recently concluded PBA50 South Shore Open featured the PBA Shark lane pattern, which at 45 feet is the longest of the season on the PBA50 Tour.

This week, the field will take on the PBA Carmen Salvino pattern, which comes in at 44 feet with a 2.32 to 1 pattern ratio. The pattern is named after PBA Hall of Famer Carmen Salvino, who at 84 still occasionally laces up to compete on the PBA Tour.
