Belmo: I'll Beat My Haters One-Handed

Amid a firestorm of social media criticism targeting those with unique bowling styles, 18-time PBA champion Jason Belmonte has come out with a message for his haters.

In a post blowing up social media today, Belmonte posted “Message to my #2hands haters. I’d still beat you with #1hand.” The message was accompanied by a video of Belmonte striking one-handed, an exceptionally rare sight.

Belmonte tells FloBowling he was inspired to post the video after seeing the criticism of Tim Cagle II’s unique two-handed delivery.

“I thought I’d share that how you bowl is simply irrelevant as long as you are just bowling,” said Belmonte, who will compete next week at the FloBowling PBA Fall Swing. “If the haters focused half the energy they have on complaining how people bowl and focused it on growing the sport, things would be better for the game.”

Clearly fired up about the topic, Belmonte said as long as players are staying within the rules, it shouldn’t matter how they throw the ball.

“I can bowl any way I want; I choose to bowl two-handed,” Belmonte said. “Can’t we just leave it at that? No one expects a lefty to change, so why make two-handed players change? As long as you are within the rules, your opinion on how the game is meant to be played is absolutely irrelevant. Follow the rules, do what you love, enjoy the game. Pretty simple.”

So, can we expect to see Belmonte using his one-handed approach next week at the FloBowling PBA Fall Swing?

“Nah, never,” Belmonte laughed. “Turns out I’m rather good with two hands.”
