PORTLAND, Maine – The PBA Playoffs keep chugging along tonight in the Round of 16 with matchups between Anthony Simonsen and Rhino Page and EJ Tackett and Andres Gomez.
The show airs at 9 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast for U.S. audiences on FS1 while international fans can watch on FloBowling.
Here are the two matches for tonight’s PBA Playoffs show:
No. 4 Anthony Simonsen vs. No. 13 Rhino Page
It’s been an up-and-down season for Simonsen this year as he’s picked up a major victory, a second-place finish but has also missed seven cuts.
Simonsen’s biggest victory of the year came in Columbus, Ohio, when he won the PBA Players Championship by topping the red-hot Jason Belmonte. The next week, he finished 80th in Indianapolis and then bounced back to finish second in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
He enters the playoffs fresh off a seventh-place finish at the USBC Masters.
As for Page, he started the PBA Playoffs in the Round of 24 where he delighted the crowd by starting with the front eight in a 266-205 win over Shawn Maldonado.
No. 5 EJ Tackett vs. No. 21 Andres Gomez
Disregarding a season-worst finish at the USBC Masters, Tackett has had a strong season but doesn’t have much to show for it.
He has eight top 10 finishes entering the PBA Playoffs and has made the show at two majors. He lost to Belmonte in the finals of the PBA Tournament of Champions and then finished fourth at the PBA Players Championship the following week.
His only win this season came in a non-title event, the World Bowling Tour Finals.
Gomez blew away Dick Allen, a two-time winner this year, in the opening match of the PBA Playoffs. Gomez built up a big lead on Allen early en route to a 236-189 victory.
