AJ Johnson, who is ranked No. 10 in FloBowling’s Preseason PBA Power Rankings, has signed a three-year contract with MOTIV heading into the 2020 season.

Johnson made the jump from Storm to Ebonite just a year ago and had the best season of his young career. The 27-year-old is still seeking his first career PBA Tour title and got tantalizingly close in July when he finished second at the PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles.

It was Johnson’s performance in the second half of the season that earned him his high preseason ranking as he finished outside the top 20 just once since July.

He also picked up the biggest win of his career when he beat Chris Barnes to claim the SamHo Korea Cup in October. Although the non-PBA event did not count as a tour title, it did come with a big payday of approximately $41,815.

MOTIV also announced several other players, nearly doubling the size of its ball staff on the PBA Tour. Among those it signed was Wesley Low, who will begin his rookie season on the PBA Tour this month after a successful collegiate career.

Two-time PBA Tour champion Chris Loschetter, who last won a title in 2016, went back to MOTIV after a year with Storm. MOTIV also signed one-time PBA Tour champion Connor Pickford, Pascal Winternheimer and Kim Bolleby.

In other signings, Brunswick lost a pair of players as Greg Ostrander, who was throwing DV8, jumped to Roto Grip, while Greg Young Jr., one of last season's top rookies, signed with Storm.

The 2020 PBA Tour season gets underway Jan. 15 live on FloBowling with coverage of qualifying and match play.
