Team USA Wins Weber Cup XX, Evens All-Time Series
Team USA took advantage of the Weber Cup being contested on its home turf for the first time in history as it defeated Europe 18-14.

Team USA took advantage of the Weber Cup being contested on its home turf for the first time in history as it defeated Europe 18-14 to win bowling’s version of the Ryder Cup.
The Americans entered the fourth and final day of competition with a 14-9 lead and was able to secure the victory in seven matches Friday. The U.S. victory evened the all-time series at 10-10.
Team USA’s roster included Chris Barnes, Kyle Troup, Jakob Butturff and Anthony Simonsen, while Europe was represented by Dom Barrett, Stu Williams, Jesper Svensson and Osku Palermaa.
Simonsen helped clinch the victory for the USA with a 287-278 win over Williams in Match 32 overall at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The win over Williams helped Simonsen secure MVP honors for the event.
On the first day of competition on Tuesday, the Europeans rallied from down 4-2 to close out the session even at 4-4. For a recap of those eight matches, click here.
Team USA really made its move on the event’s second day when it won six of eight matches to move ahead 10-6. That day was capped off by the first Baker 300 game in the history of the Weber Cup as the U.S. beat Europe 300-257. For a recap of the second day’s matches, click here.
The Americans found themselves on the winning side of things on the third day as well, going 4-3 and pushing their lead to 14-9 overall. Barrett was able to salvage the last match of the day with a 241-229 win over Butturff. For a recap of the third day’s matches, click here.
Europe held its own on the final day, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Europe managed to hold off defeat by winning three matches in a row after the U.S. got within a point of victory but it was too little too late. For a recap of the final day’s matches, click here.
